Accurate determination of a person’s location in the case of emergency can make the difference between life and death. It is estimated that an improved location accuracy which results in reducing emergency response time by one minute can result in saving over 10,000 lives annually in the USA alone. In this project, we target building the first Egyptian Enhanced Emergency Response System (EEE112) that provides the location of an emergency caller accurately to the Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP), i.e. the call center for emergency phone calls.
This project will explore and innovate on different fronts that will enable the realization of the first Egyptian Enhanced Emergency Response system. Specifically, we will investigate the different ways of integrating such a system with the cellular provider side, with no changes to the infrastructure, that lead to different accuracy based on the available information. In addition, different ways of incorporation of a client-side mode will also be investigated.
